I have had the same thought, Auntie. Sometimes He even sounds like a mean God to me.
I know we've said this before but, I am still amazed at how over all our sinful human nature never seems to change. One day the Israelites are all about God and the very next day they start complaining and wishing they never left Egypt. Oh, how we do the same thing.
I didn't remember that after the Israelites complained to Moses and Aaron that they decided to get up early the next morning and go into the promised land. They realized that they had sinned, but they didn't ask for forgiveness. Wonder if the outcome would have been different had they first made sacrifices to God, then gone to the Promise Land?

I agree it does sometimes seem like God is mean when He burns people up at the alter or has the earth swallow them alive but then I came across Num 14:19 where Moses says "In keeping with your magnificent, unfailing love..." So I have to believe that there was a lot more "love" going around than "mean". I think we are so used to describing God as "the God of Love" or seeing him as a loving Father that we forget that he is a God of discipline, and a very jealous one.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read Nu 15:37:41 I really liked the tassel part but what struck me was verse 41 when God said "I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt that I might be your God. I am the Lord your God!" I wonder how many times he has said that or something similiar to the Isrealites. No wonder he occassionally zapped one or two of them dead.
Hey, I've been off working a Walk to Emmaus since last Thursday so I was worried that I was going to be way behind when I got home...guess I'm okay, huh?
ReplyDeleteI'll catch up on the reading soon.
