I'm sorry that I haven't blogged lately. I don't really have an excuse. Just always seem to be running late this week.
Anyway, I got to back up and make a couple of comments about what we read this week.
Starting with February 2, Exodus 4:24-26 - What is this about? God was going to kill Moses? After He given Moses his instruction to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. What is up with that? My NIV study bible says that apparently God was mad because Moses had not circumcised his son. What would have happened if Zipporah hadn't been so quick with the knife and circumcised the son?
And I can't help but wonder - Why didn't the magicians try to get rid of the frogs instead of making more frogs?
And did you notice that on several occasions Pharaoh asked Moses to take the plague away "tomorrow". Why not 'today, right now, please".
January 5 - Exodus 14:13-14 Rule to live by - Don't be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today...Just stay calm. But like the Israelites, so many times we stay calm and trust God for three days and then we start our complaining again.

Re Ex4:24-26 I'm just glad God is willing to use people EVEN though they aren't perfect!
ReplyDeleteTree, I LOVE the verse you ended with. That really is a verse to live by. Too often we forget to "watch" what God is doing.
Also back tracking:
I was intrigued by the comment in Ex 1:8 that said "a new King came to power in Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph or what he had done". Maybe ya'll are light years ahead of me but I had to research why that was important. Duh to me - The Egyptians didn't remember that Joseph had saved there hiney's during the famine years so they forgot how important the Isrealites had been to their success. S'plains alot about why they treated them so badly. But what it really is doing is fulfilling the promise that God made to Abraham.
The other thing that has me thinking is this:
The Isrealites were in slavery for a long time. And were in slavery inspite of the fact that they were God's chosen people. God knew this & watched. And at just the right time He and Moses show up toss around 10 plagues to show the Egyptians who's in control and increase the Isrealites faith & belief in both God and Moses as their leader. But at one point the Isrealites were worked harder because of it. All this time I've been thinking that because I'm a nice, church going, obedient christian that God would watch over me and protect me from harm while HE took care of the bad guys.
Then I read again in Ex 1:8 that said "a new King came to power in Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph or what he had done". And I just have to wonder how much of the past is going to repeat itself. Not the locust and boils of course but possibly the oppression and slavery.
Hope I like manna.
Y'all are so deep it makes me feel silly. I really like Tree's observation that we watch God for three days and then go back to our whining. So true. Ever notice how many things in the Bible are in sets of three?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm so shallow I just keep singing that little kids' song in my head..."Pharoh, Pharoh, oh baby let my people go!" LOL
