Usually when something is repeated 12 times I have to figure that it must be really important. But, I can't figure out why Moses had to repeat the 12 offerings from the leaders over and over. I can think of several ways to make this section not so wordy. Am I missing something of great importance here?

  1. The 12 accounts represent the 12 tribes/sons of Isreal/Jacob. I'm sure it was very important back in Moses' day when the earth was just being populated but today it does seems less important. I don't know why they couldn't just say "and the 12 tribes of Isreal each contributed .....".

I suppose when you view the book of Exodus as a recording of all that happened - it makes sense that they were also taking inventory and recording geneology and census information.

I think that it took less than 1 year to build the tabernacle & they didn't even have modern tools. Guess that just goes to show what can be accomplished when you put your mind to it. And of course you have God on your side!

  2. The Old Testament often puzzles me with stuff like this. I think we often miss the significance because we lack knowledge of the culture and why things were handled in certain ways. It's clear they never took a business writing class!
