I keep wondering just how busy were the priests. Seems to me with all the offerings and sacrifices they must have been working 24/7. Unless the people didn't sin that much back then.
I find it pretty sobering that so many of the sins are punishable by death; sins that we (especially the secular) don't give a second thought. I also find it interesting that there were certain types of women the priests were not allowed to marry, but they were definitely NOT forbidden to marry. I guess Catholics have an answer to that...it's Old Testament and all...
I know I'm late commenting but I was really struck by something on the 22nd and since we haven't moved way past it I'm going to go ahead & share it.
Lev 17:11 says "For the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the alter to purify you, making you right with the Lord. It is the blood, given in exhcange for a life, that makes purification possible."
We've spent days reading in agonizing detail about all the sacrifices that were necessary to be clean and then 1 little verse shows up that not only explains what it meant for the Isrealites but also for us. Not that I didn't know that, I've always known that Jesus' blood was shed so that I would be made pure but I guess hearing/seeing it in God's voice makes it different.
For me, this scripture ties all the blood shed and all the burning hide and bones to the blood Jesus shed for me. And explains just how far God will go to make me right with Him.
